Brunch at The Carbon Bar!
The Carbon Bar (99 Queen Street East, Toronto) serves BBQ and Southern-inspired fare and cocktails. The restaurant has been my go-to spot for incredible prime beef brisket, fried chicken, and bloody Caesars. For first timers heading to the restaurant for lunch or dinner, I recommend ordering the ‘Pit Master Platter’!
Great news is that The Carbon Bar now serves brunch every Sunday from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm and it is worth a visit! Plus, there is a free mimosa promotion going on (more details below).
What’s the space like?
I say the decor is like a classy and artsy whiskey bar in an industrial setting with exposed brick and high ceilings. The huge space used to be the original Electric Circus in the 80s, before the dance studio had moved to the Queen St. West location. The “Electric” sign pays tribute to the original space, while the smoke mural reminds us of a time when smoking was allowed inside restaurants in Toronto. The restaurant is excellent for small or large parties, with different seating options including comfy booths, and a private room that can be booked for special events. Also, there is lots of room for strollers which is a big bonus!

Free mimosas happening now!
Their brunch menu continues with their Southern-inspired fare with dishes such as Texas BBQ, Chicken and Waffles, Mezcal & Lime Cured Salmon, and Buttermilk Pancakes. A pre-fix option is available for $27 per person (brunch menu here)
There is also a FREE mimosa promotion during brunch right now. All you have to do is post your brunch experience on Instagram or Facebook, tag @thecarbonbar and use hashtag #freemimosa #brunch.
Our selection:
I went with my husband and 2 kids, and had a chance to try 3 dishes. We chose:
Huevos El Carbon ($19) with warm tortillas, black beans, two eggs sunny, Manchego cheese, chorizo, guacamole, charred pico de gallo, coriander, and lime.
This was my kind of dish with appetizing flavours that were savoury and spicy. The squeeze of the charred lime was a nice touch to the dish. I appreciated that they had slow cooked black beans that still kept its texture, rather than refried beans.
Smoked Brisket Benny ($20) with high rise biscuits, two poached eggs, red cabbage slaw, Anaheim chili, dill pickle, and hollandaise.
This dish was delicious and filling with the tender beef brisket and perfectly poached eggs!
Buttermilk Pancakes ($16) with wild blueberries, Ennis Farm maple syrup, and lemon yogurt hangop.
There wasn’t a kids menu, so the pancakes was a safe option, and it hit the spot with generous portions!
As a Caesar fanatic, I went with the Manager’s recommendation- The Glorified Caesar! It was fully stacked with their house-made ribs, brisket, crab claw, shrimp, olives, and a wicked smoky spice rim. I absolutely loved it! This off-menu item is really a meal-in-one!
Overall:
The Carbon Bar is a solid restaurant for their BBQ, atmosphere and service. The brunch prices are reasonable for the quality of dishes that is not your typical ‘bacon and eggs’ brunch restaurant. My wish list is that they come up with a kids brunch or lunch menu with smaller portions.
Check them out!
