Toronto’s Centre Island Fun!

The Toronto Islands is truly an oasis away from the hustle and bustle of the city and only a ferry ride away to Hanlan’s Point, Centre Island, and Ward’s Island. Centre Island, in particular, is where I have the fondest memories with family and friends over the decades.  I vividly remember going on the log ride and haunted house in Centreville repeatedly because I loved it so much.

Now with young kids of my own, I want them to experience what Centre Island has to offer. During our recent trip in August with family, we had a blast at the park, and realized that most of what we did was free…and who doesn’t love free? Our fun time prompted me to create a list to share. Some of the items I listed may be obvious, but hopefully, there is at least one thing you didn’t think of.

Here you go…

10 Free Kid Friendly Things to do at Toronto’s Centre Island

1. Have a picnic!

Since my last visit 3 years ago, Centre Island has many more picnic tables with rows of them by the Cedar Hedge Maze and Splash Pad area.   Feel free to bring your own picnic blanket for the large open green space.  There are also BBQ stations you can book.

2. Bring your own wheels like your bike, scooter, or rollerblades!

3. Walk along the boardwalk!

Change the scenery and walk along the scenic Lakefront. On the map, look for #16 (the Island Bicycle rental) and turn left towards Ward’s Island. Alternatively, is to go to the Pier by the beach! Both are great options.

4. Visit the animals at “Far enough Farm” located within Centreville.

The farm has been a popular tourist spot since 1959, making it one of the oldest attractions in the city.

5. Get lost in a maze!

The Cedar Hedge maze is perfect for your adventurous and curious family members.

6. Make use of the playground!

Also new since my last visit.

7. Head to Manitou beach!

It looks like the beach has also been extended which means there is plenty of room for sunbathing, water play, and sand castles.

8. Get wet in the splash pad!

With the hot weather in Toronto, the splash pads are an awesome way to cool off! There is a shallow pad within Centreville and a larger splash pad by the Cedar Hedge Maze and playground.

9. Have a photoshoot!

With so many different backdrops, there’s plenty of places to capture your memories.

10. Bring your own fun!

With a large amount of green and beach space; bring your badminton rackets, soccer balls, and potato sacks for some family fun.

Centreville Fun!

Although we did 90% what was listed, we also brought our kids to Centreville.

Centreville

There are over 30 rides and attractions within Centreville with many rides that are still around since I was a kid. Who remembers the Haunted Barrel Works (Haunted House) and Antique car ride? My kids can’t stop talking about how much fun they had.

As for ride passes, you can get an individual all-day ride pass, a family all-day ride pass, or a seasons pass (get your tickets!).
