The air fryer test!
There are a ton of air fryers on the market, and I can understand the appeal. Air fryers are convection ovens that circulate hot air at high speeds. The appeal is to have tasty food, especially the ones that are deep-fried, and cooking them with little to no oil. Eating healthier is definitely top of mind for many.
I do have two countertop ovens with an air fry function and have used my parent’s air fryer, so I do have a comparison point as I did my testing.
For my review, I cooked a variety of food in the Ultima Cosa Presto Luxe Grande 8L Air Fryer over a two-week span for breakfast and dinner, multiple times a week.
For the test, I was evaluating the following criteria’s:
- Ease of use
- How powerful is the machine?
- Can it make food crispy?
- Overall results of the food
- How easy is clean up?
More about the results shortly.

Review of the Ultima Cosa Presto Luxe Grande 8L Air Fryer
Ease of use
It is very easy to use! I did read the instruction manual which is a must to understand the features and safety precautions, but it was very straightforward.
The digital display was easy to understand with eight presets in pictures, and buttons to increase or decrease the timing, and the temperature. On top of that, the top of the air fryer has preset guidelines. The pictures are super helpful!
The air fryer also came with a small recipe book which I appreciated.
How powerful is the machine?
The machine is powerful based on my tests to date. Once food is placed in the basket with the timing/temperature set, the machine starts cooking the food right away! The noise levels are quiet with only the sound of the fan blowing. I can pull the basket out at any time during cooking, and the machine will temporarily pause. It automatically restarts when the basket is placed back into the air fryer.
I can cook one dish after another without having to wait for the machine to fully cool down. This is a big deal as I can cook many dishes consecutively.
Can it make food crispy?
This is the ultimate question as we want the taste and texture of deep fried foods without all the oil.
Yes it can!
Now, the only thing is that there may be some trial and error before you get the desired crispiness that you want. For fries, I had to make it multiple times and found that cooking it at 400°F. for 25 minutes created the best results. Also, soaking the potatoes in water, and drying them first also created crispier. Frozen store-bought fries had the crispiest results and needed a shorter cooking time to achieve crispy fries.
With fried chicken, I tested chicken with flour, flour and cornstarch, and baking powder for the batter, and had cooked them at different temperatures. During my test, baking powder on the chicken, plus spacing the chicken on the crisp tray resulted in the crispy skin I was looking for. Spraying oil on the dry spots halfway on the flour spots are also important.
Overall results of the food
Based on my testing of ingredients including toast, bacon, onion rings, and eggs (hard boiled eggs), the Ultima Cosa air fryer did the job in cooking it well. There is a bit of trial and error to get the right doneness that you want, and may require some checking of your food mid way.
Here are the timings of what worked for me:
- Kale Chips- 380 °F for 10 minutes, shaking the basket about every few minutes.
- Fried Chicken using seasoned baking powder as the coating-380 °F for 17 mins, flipped once with flour spots sprayed with oil ( I used an oil cooking spray).
- Fries- 400 °F for 25 minutes, shaking the basket once.
- Toast – 360 °F for 4 minutes, no flipping.
How easy is clean up?
The clean up is very easy! This is a great selling point as convenience is everything.
The crisp tray and the non-stick basket can be washed in the dishwasher. If you only need to clean the crumbs in the basket, I suggest a quick wipe down, as it is a non-stick surface.
Other cool features:
For a family of 4, the 8L capacity works well as I can cook up to 8 chicken drumsticks at once or a full basket of fries, and kale chips. The 8L air fryer is pretty big so having sufficient counter space is best if you will keep it on the counter.
I like the sleek design in silver for the 8L air fryer, as it looks modern and goes well with my other kitchen appliances. If I had a wish for this air fryer, it would be that there is a window so I can watch my food cook. I know this is not the norm for air fryers to have this feature.
