Address: 158 Main St., Unionville, ON
First Visit: Jan. 2017
Suburban folks can now enjoy the famous Uncle Tetsu cheesecakes without trekking downtown, as a location opened up in the fall of 2016 on the historic Main Street Unionville. Even better, there are shorter line ups and specialty items that is only offered at this location. Although the shop is located in a large house, the shop mainly accommodates take-out, and has limited seating space on the front porch.
The prices are the same as the downtown location for their cheesecakes with no limit on the number of cheesecakes a customer can order if the lines are short.
In the summer, this location is going to make a killin’ with Asian flavoured ice cream flavours such as taro, black sesame and real matcha; a smart way to different themselves from their local competition. Madeleines are also a popular item at this location.
And for the showstopper, the Unionville location now offers a no-bake cheesecake, including a real matcha flavour , Sakura (cherry blossom) cheese cake, and a Yusu cheesecake.
Each beautiful cake is made with the Tetsu family’s top secret ingredients and holds a unique texture like no other, with many ingredients that are imported from Japan. The texture is creamy, similar to a dense mousse cake, and has a yogurt-like consistency. It was not too sweet with a mild cheese flavour; a perfect light dessert to end a meal.
The Yusu cheesecake was my favourite with yuzu zests and a strong citrus flavour. For those who want a more intense and defined flavour, the real matcha flavour would be a great choice. The Sakura flavour is the lightest of the 3, with a delicate sweet flavour. The large size cakes are $35 (seen in the picture above) and the small sized cakes are $8 (taxes included). They must be ordered one day in advance, as only a small number of the no-bake cheesecakes are made each day.
If you sign up with the Gourmand Club (link here), you will receive a coupon by e-mail to receive 20% off the Sakura cake. Hurry up, the coupon expires February 10th, 2017. There are other benefits for signing up to the club. Check it out!
Overall:
The Unionville Uncle Tetsu is worth a visit, with many specialty items not seen in the downtown location, with much shorter lines.
*Disclosure: I have received complimentary samples to try the no-bake cheesecake but the opinions in the post are my own.
